I just saw a commercial for the Raleigh Home Show and it was filled with all kinds of goodies for our home. Hot tubs, new kitchens, chicken coops, oh my! As much as I want a chicken coop… I’d actually like to have a beehive but Mrs. A is not aligned. I think this year we are going to shop for a home power platform. Literally, our own home power system consists of a power plant (solar), Storage (battery wall), and delivery system for our electric vehicle (EV charger). I imagine every Home Show across the country will have options for people thinking similar thoughts.

We’ve used Google’s Project Sunroof estimator to get and idea of how much power we could create at our home.

There is something appealing to me about generating and storing our own power. It’s sustainable for sure, but there’s so much more. It would create a sense of self-sufficiency and security that we could have reliable power access no matter what. It has also become a great investment. On average, solar power systems add 4.1% to a home’s value. Even before all of the current federal, state, and local tax advantages, and in many places energy company incentives, that added value would more than cover the entire cost of an average system for our home.

Currently, the Federal incentive is at 26% until the end of the year, with a step-down in 2023, and a total phaseout in 2024. The investment looks better and better when you think of the offset of some or most of your power bill and with an added EV charger (free gas… electrons?). A smart solar consultant can help you work through the options. In many cases, there are zero out-of-pocket dollars, and many options for all kinds of homes and “available sun” situations.

If you’re in Raleigh this weekend and visiting the Ideal Home Show, the team at Covenant Solar has got you covered. Its team of solar experts can help you wade through all of the available options. With less than a year to go on the fill federal tax credit, the time couldn’t be better.
